Governor election of Saga Prefecture was unexpected result

The election of Governor of Saga Prefecture was taken place in previous Sunday. Saga prefecture locates north west Kyushu having approximately 830 thousand people. There is a nuclear power plant called “Genkai” held by Kyushu electric power company. It used to supply about 30% of total power supply made by Kyushu electric power company but now the operation is ceased after the great East Japan Earthquake.

As PM Abe and LDP is willing to restart the Genkai nuclear power plant operation, this election was critically important for the government. However, the candidate supported by the ruling parties could not make it. Mr. Yoshinori Yamaguchi, a former public servant working for Ministry of Economic, Trade and Industry won the campaign instead.

There are lot of elements that effected the election but it is certain that the result was very disappointing for the PM Abe and LDP. By this result, LDP underwent three consecutive defeats at the prefectural governor election.
